This is because the documents of his time and about him were not so many and the legends have been acknowledged when he was still alive and after his death also.

ne of the sons of Mircea the Old was Vlad, called “Dracul”. From 1431 untill 1436, Vlad Dracul lived in Transylvania, at Sighisoara. In 1428-1429 a son of him was born, and was named Mircea, like his father. Not long after, another son was born and he was named as him, Vlad. Vlad, the son of Vlad Dracul appears in the documents of the time at 20 of January 1437.

The first document he wrote is the letter from 31 of October 1448. Vlad the Impaler became a great leader, a restless fighter for freedom and justice for his contry and the south-eastern Europe, which was hoping him to save them of slavery. For all this part of Europe his name was known and he became a symbol, not for the evil, but for the true hope.

The history of Vlad The Impaler (Vlad Tepes) is embeded in mysterious stories and legends and the truth is that no one knows where the story ends and where the historical facts begin. Vlad Tepes, called Dracula or Draculea reigned in the Romanian land between 1448, 1456-1462 and in 1476.

His first years as a leader could be interpreted as a part of the battle between Danesti and Draculesti, two rival groups. The first is the supporters of „DANILOR” (the folowers of Dan I) and the second one the supporters of the „DRAGULI” (the descendents of Mircea the Old, named after Vlad Dracul). The failure of 1448 can be explained by analyzing the international status of the Romanian Land around middle XVth century.

The Romanian Land was ruled by a double power: the Hungarian and the Ottoman power called by Nicolaie Iorga: “a strange ruling power”. In reality this showed the incapacity of the two powers to dominate each for themselves. The failure of 1448 can be explained by analyzing the international status of the Romanian Land around middle XV century.

During the preparation for a battle between the Ottoman Empire and the Christians (when the Belgrad was under siege and it was protected by Iancu de Hunedoara and the sultan Mehmet II) Vlad Tepes was crowned. In 1456 he was crowned and it lasted until 1462. This will bring him the celebrity.

“In any case Vlad Tepes is a character surrounded by blood and one of the most interesting man of our history. Cruel to the bones, not knowing how to be mercifull and how to forgive, he dedicated himself to his country. He banished the bad people and killed the people that didn’t listen to him and did wrong things. On this occasions we can see other qualities, like his never dying courage that give him the power to defeat one of the most great conqurers of the world.”A.D.Xenepol.
